This year’s recipient of the JC Carey Memorial Scholarship (sponsored by MMC) is Gleason Graduate Avery Steele Orr. Avery is the son of Keith and Amy Orr, grandson of Max Orr and the late Mary Orr, and the late Ellie and Betty Steele.  Avery served as Class President (3 yrs), Class Vice President (1yr), Student Council member (3 yrs), Beta Club (4yrs) - Vice President Senior Year; Fellowship of Christian Athletes (4 yrs) - President Senior Year and Vice-President Junior Year; G-Club (4 yrs) - Vice-President Senior Year; Science Club (3 yrs); Spanish Club (2 yrs); Weakley County Youth Leadership Graduate; Member of the Bulldog Football Team (4 yrs); Member of the Bulldog Baseball Team (4 yrs).

Avery received the following rewards and scholarships: Top Ten Award (4 yrs); Boys State Delegate; All-District Football (Sr.yr), Scholar Athlete of the Week; Awarded Most Reliable in Football (Sr yr); chosen as “Mr. GHS” and “Best All Around” in Who’s Who; Recipient of the Woodmen of the World Scholarship; Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship; UT Dean’s Scholarship and the Derek Steele Hagler Memorial Scholarship.

Avery is a member of Gleason First United Methodist Church, member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, active participant in East Weakley County Relay for Life events and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Avery plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall and major in Exercise Science and Wellness, a pre-Physical Therapy major.

The Staff of Gleason Clinic and Mckenzie Medical Center congratulate Avery on being chosen as this years JC Carey Memorial Scholarship recipient. We wish Avery the very best in all his future endeavors.  Congratulations Avery!! We are so proud of you!!
