Free Childbirth Classes at McKenzie Regional Hospital

As part of McKenzie Medical Center and McKenzie Regional Hospital’s joint efforts to ensure their OB patients receive high quality care and assistance during their pregnancies they provide free child birth classes at McKenzie Regional Hospital on the second Monday of every month from 6-9 p.m. To reserve a spot in these classes call 731-352-4149.

An interactive book using real life experience and instructional videos is used to teach the class via a PowerPoint Presentation. It explains the third trimester, the labor process, comfort measures and labor positions. Other topics discussed include interventions, pain medications, cesarean birth, newborn care, postpartum care and breastfeeding basics. The class is appropriate for pregnant women in their third trimester.

McKenzie Regional Hospital OB Manager, Registered Nurse and class instructor, Shelly McArthur explained, “The purpose of the class is to understand the process of labor and delivery and to answer questions about the birth. We believe the more knowledge that you have of the process of birth the more likely you will approach the journey with confidence and a positive perspective.”
